Hi. I’m Joanna, and I’m a shoe-aholic. (Hi, Joanna.) This is said in jest and in the vain of a stereotypical Alcoholics Anonymous meeting introduction simply because I get addiction, mental illness, and widely understood cultural references. But seriously, I dig shoes too much.
Recently, I got into a conversation with my therapist about shoes. Not just any shoes. Christian Louboutin’s. The iconic red lacquered soles are the trademark of this shoe designer dynasty.
I bought them initially for a wedding. The only problem was that they were quite tall (surprise, surprise) and needed to be broken in before dancing the night away. So I decided to keep them and swing for a different pair for the celebration. They sit in my closet now, with some Gucci, Prada, and Manolo Blahnik, among others. You want the most out of your designer shoes, so which are truly the best to wear every day to work?
Ferragamo, You Treat My Feet with Kindness
I have discovered that Salvatore Ferragamo heels truly have your comfort in mind. Classic and conservative enough for a professional office, it seems these heels can get you from morning coffee to 5, 6, 7 PM even if you have a hustle-and-bustle NYC commute. With such fashionable styles, they even flawlessly transition, completing your day-to-night look.
Balenciaga, You Got Me Ga-Ga
Balenciaga heels are not for shrinking violets. These are modern and innovative, with an emphasis on standing out. If you work in a creative, high-power position, try these on for size. They make a statement, and are not for the faint of heart. Kick your feet up on your desk with these puppies, girl boss.
Louboutin, I Love You But You’re Driving Me Crazy
This is the “it” shoe, no matter the style. Anyone and everyone will recognize the Christian Louboutin red sole. But this is for purely sedentary workplace environments. If you have a lot of standing and walking, presenting and prancing, I have to say choose something with better walkability. Otherwise, drive that commute and stroll to your desk with these glamorous status pumps. Your dogs won’t bark if you stay put, and you can still flash that red when you walk to the kitchen to get your afternoon dose of caffeine. Even into that big weekly meeting in conference room A. The ladies will drool over what you’ve got going on at the end of your stems. Power move!
How About Something More Realistic?
Clarks. I will say it one more time: Clarks. When I was introduced to these shoes, I thought, okay they look nice, comfortable, casual and with some dressier options. But when I slipped on a pair of black suede booties, I never took them off. They wear in without wearing out. They last. They love your precious feet. And they take a woman where she needs to go. Daytime office to nighttime shoe goddess, this is one of my top picks.
Sum It All Up in One Shoe…
Obviously, there are many other shoe options out there. Here’s the kicker (pun alert): every woman has a right to express herself. A high heel is not an open invitation. The majority of women that I know wear beautiful foot-adornments not for men. Nay; they wear them to express themselves and let their sparkling personalities shine from the inside out. Myself included. If any man tries to tell you what you should, could, or can’t wear, I would laugh and say, it’s not for you. It’s for me.
Then give him a good kick in the ass with that red lacquered heel. It is the pointiest, after all.
