Breathing is not something people tend to put a lot of thought into. Luckily, it is something that our bodies do without thinking. Yet, at some point, it is important to take the time to think about breathing. Specifically, taking a deeper breath than usual. Breathing deeply helps people in a couple of ways.

Firstly, a deep breath can help people when they are feeling stressed or anxious. Unfortunately, breathing is not the first thing that tends to come to mind when feeling stressed because we can get caught up in the moment. So, take the time to think about your breathing; try and focus on not letting your emotions get the best of you. A few breaths in, a few breaths out. Do this until you start to calm down. I find that breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth helps me control my emotions incredibly well.

Secondly, controlling your breath can help you think through a decision. Instead of rushing through a decision and doing something you may regret, breathing gives you time to think so you make the best choice. It may just be a few seconds, but taking those few seconds can mean the world of difference and prevent poor choices from being made. The patience that comes with breathing is incredible.

A deep breath is so good for your body, and you will find that it will actually help you to feel better (emotionally and physically). Remember to breathe deeply instead of simply allowing your body to take full responsibility for breathing. Every once in a while, at least, remind yourself to take in a few deep breaths. Trust me, it definitely helps.
